What Is Reflexology?
"Reflexology is getting world wide recognition" -Time Magazine, Nov. 1991.
Reflexology is an ancient healing therapy based on the theory that there are reflex areas int he feet which correspond to all parts of the body. Stimulating these reflexes correctly can relieve tension and stress in a natural way.
Almost all health problems can be associated with nervous stress. Beginners to foot reflexology are amazed how simple, precise pressure on a specific areas of the feet can eliminate congestion in the body. Many doctors and therapists are beginning to recommend reflexology as a vital part of the holistic healing process.
How Does Reflexology Work?
Sediments, caused by stress, tension, and gravity accumulate in the foot. Crystallization forms. At those points, the energy flow to the corresponding body parts is blocked. The reflexologist knows how to recognized this congestion. By pressing (not massaging) with his fingers and thumbs, he can help dissolve the congestion to create a positive energy flow.
This energy flow helps the body heal itself. For example, if you have lower back pain, the reflexologist will concentrate on that corresponding mass in the foot.
What is the History of Reflexology?
Reflexology is practiced in all parts of the world by different cultures. The earliest recorded documentation of reflexology is a pictograph - 2500 BC - in the Tomb of Akhmahor in Egypt. This pictograph shows a physician working on a person's foot. Reflexology is used as a diagnostic tool in Sweden, Denmark, and Israel.
Is Reflexology for Everyone?
Absolutely. From active athletes to wheelchair paraplegics. From amateur to professional dancers. From great-grandparents to babies. For example, it has a calming effect on babies and prepares them for a life of good health.
Statistics show that 25% of all nursing home residents cannot walk at all because of problems in their lower extremities. Reflexology is a safe and effective therapy in helping people become more active. Through reflexology, the whole body is encouraged to renew itself so that all of its processes are working in harmony. Reflexology is an effective and safe therapy to help get them mobile again.
Can I Learn Reflexology to Work on Myself?
By all means. Mr. Horan encourages it. He teaches workshops that are enlightening and enjoyable. Workshop attendees learn the basics of working on the feet and how they can apply this healing therapy for the rest of their lives on themselves, their family, and their friends.
